MEET OUR THIRD GRADE TEAM

Kaitlyn Lambeth

Lead Teacher - ELA/SS

  • About Ms. Kaitlyn

I am a proud graduate of The University of North Carolina at Wilmington earning my B.A. in Elementary Education. I have known since I was a child that my career would involve working with children. I am very passionate about making a lasting impact on my students lives and helping them to succeed and grow in all that they do. I have come to find that each student makes an impact on you, just as you do on them. This too is why I chose the teaching profession.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time outdoors on the water with family and friends and traveling and exploring new places. I am excited to be teaching at Tiller School. I intend to bring a positive attitude, a smiling face and motivation to my students. Children are inspired and learn best in a positive, social environment.  I believe this is a special attribute of our school. Our sense of community, and nurturing environment allows for strong relationships to be made and provides extra love and support to students. I want to make sure my students come to school feeling excited and lucky to call Tiller their school.  I am so excited to begin building relationships with the faculty and staff at Tiller and most importantly all students and families. I am so honored to be a part of this family.

Gillian Rose

Lead Teacher - Math/Science

  • About Ms. Gillian

My name is Ms. Gillian (Gillian Rose) and I am so excited to be teaching 3rd-grade math and science at Tiller School! Over the summer, I have had the wonderful experience of teaching SOAR here at Tiller. We have had an absolute blast! I already absolutely love being a part of the Tiller family. In May, I graduated from East Carolina University (Go Pirates!) with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and a Concentration in Reading. In the fall, I will be continuing my education at East Carolina University to pursue my Masters in Reading Education and Masters in AIG Education.

I love learning and I am looking forward to continuing my education and learning more ways to better support my students and all students at Tiller School. While I was attending ECU, I worked for 3.5 years as a Teacher Assistant and Bus Driver for Carteret and Craven County Schools. I absolutely loved my time as a Teacher Assistant and gained so much valuable knowledge and experience through working while completing my degree. I believe students learn best through hands-on, engaging, and active learning. I strive to incorporate this into my classroom every day! I love doing creative activities, STEAM labs, hands-on experiments, arts and crafts, and so much more! Learning is messy and in my classroom, we make a mess (an educational mess, of course!).

Outside of school, I love spending time with my family and pets! I am an animal lover and have 4 cats, 2 dogs, and 3 saltwater fish. My dog Banks, who is a Puggle, is my sidekick and is always with me when I am not at school! I love to spend time at the beach, pool, or out on the boat. Whichever place I find myself, I always have a good book in hand. I LOVE to read and could not begin to tell you how many books I own! My favorite books of all time are the Harry Potter series, although you will most often find me with a historical fiction novel! Just like in the classroom, I love being crafty at home, creating on my cameo machine, or coming up with new experiments and crafts for my students! Teaching and inspiring students is my passion and I am so excited to be a part of Tiller School!

Patty Adkins

Teaching Assistant

  • About Ms. Patty

Hello, my name is Patty Adkins.

I am married and have 2 children, 1 adorable grandson and a chihuahua named Nugget.

My husband and I moved to Morehead 2 years ago to make this our forever home and we truly love it!  We also attend Community Baptist Church in Newport.

I went back to school later in life to earn my Associates Degree in Applied Science.

I also earned my certification to be a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). I've worked in various areas of the medical field including Pediatrics. I realized working with children is what I enjoy doing. So that lead me into working within the school system.

Before we moved here, I worked in the Rockingham County School system assisting K-4 and worked within the Carteret Co. schools assisting with K-4. I really enjoy working with the children helping them to reach their full potential. I know that each day will present different opportunities and challenges.

I'm excited to be a part of the Tiller family.

    - Ms. Patty

Our Projects

what we are currently Learning in Third Grade:

We just started our local history unit in social studies, the students are so excited. We watched the Rambin With Rodney video from the Historic Society and they were so engaged. We are headed to the Maritime Museum on Monday 4/11 to continue our research on history. Wednesday 4/13 Heather Rose is coming to speak to students about commercial fishing and fishing in history, as well as doing a fish ink painting.

In Math, we are finishing up our unit on area and perimeter, which is our last math standard for third grade! Students enjoyed creating different sized quadrilaterals out of cheez its and determining the area and perimeter of each...and of course eating the cheez its afterwards was a bonus treat! During this unit, students designed and planned out their "Dream House" and calculated the area of each room and the total area of their house. In Science, students have been learning about plants! Our third graders are growing cabbage plants at home, thanks to Bonnie's Plants, and are growing various vegetables and plants in our campus garden beds. In the classroom, we are attempting to grow avocado trees from a seed! Students also enjoyed a fossil dig and virtual tour of the Aurora Fossil Museum.

When we return from spring break, we will begin preparing for the Math and Reading EOG. We will be doing a lot of practice and work on building students' stamina, especially being able to sit and read for longer periods of time. Third grade is going to rock the test and the rest of the school year!
